Alexandria Historical Society

Founded in 1974, the Alexandria Historical Society promotes an active interest in American history and particularly the history of Alexandria and of Virginia, through research, discussion, and publication.

The Society sponsors five lectures per year featuring outstanding speakers with a focus on Alexandria history. The Chronicle is our semi-annual publication highlighting and documenting scholarly research on the city's past. Our Newsletter, published six times per year, announces upcoming lectures, events and activities, as well as promotes Society business. Members are encouraged to submit articles to our publications.

In April, the Society presents its Annual Awards to those who have made noteworthy contributions to the preservation of the historic, cultural, and artistic heritage of Alexandria.

Occasionally, the Society hosts special events and tours to promote Alexandria's historical heritage.
